TITLE:
: "GUAYAS" TALL SHIP FROM ECUADOR
ARTIST: CHRISTOPHER WALSH
Best of show, Ventura maritime museum "International
Waters" exhibition
Walsh, 48, is a technical illustrator and graphic artist who
began painting at a young age. He grew up on Long Island, NY
and moved to California some 25 years ago. His subjects include
ships, the sea, landscapes and portraits. Always attracted to
sailing and the sea, it was here where he started to take serious
interest in painting clipper ships and other nautical scenes.
With a technical sense for detail he was inspired to overcome
painting such difficult subjects without taking painting lessons.
More recent most of the marine scenes are created from imagination.
After moving to California and attending school he started working
as a technical illustrator and graphic artist for over 25 years.
He quickly gained a reputation for managing very complex illustrations
and became known for outstanding detail. Now a landscape, portrait,
marine and western artist, he's enjoying the challenge of painting
because it does take discipline and attention to detail and the
efforts are rewarding to the soul. |
