TITLE: SPHERES
ARTIST: LYNNE SHEPHARD
I have been an abstract artist for more than 25 years. I grasp things out of my head, sometimes without being cognizant of what it is, at the time, but going with it nonetheless. It is important to me to paint or draw those things and ideas that are part of my world, to exhibit my journey on this earth. And, hopefully, I have found a unique voice in that journey.
Abstract art asks more of its audience in transcribing what
the artist is "talking" about in a painting. There can be
many translations associated with an abstract work, and all may
be valid in the eyes of the beholder. The artist's intent may
not be a valid answer to what someone sees in the painting. One
can appreciate a work of abstraction simply because of the way
it makes the viewer feel about it. I try to give viewers something
to wonder about and play with visually. Those that take the time
to see my work are the ones I pay attention to when comments
are made about the e work.
The size of my paintings is determined by how much I have to
"say", or "talk about", when I start a painting,
and every painting has something to say. I am a journeyman. I
am an artist. The path through a painting is always a visual
adventure. I strive for an expression of wonder and presence.
I find the journey the most fascinating thing about being an
abstract artist. It is said that a painting might never be finished.
The artist, though, decides a comfortable stopping place, and
then moves on to the next painting. |
