TITLE: RAKU BOTTLE
ARTIST: SCOTT KOWALSKI

Born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, I first touched clay in my high school crafts class. I fell in love with clay then. Wanting to continue my experience in clay, I included pottery classes in all my college coursework. Ultimately I graduated with a BA in Art from San Francisco State University and later went on to obtain a teaching credential and a Masters degree in art. Currently I am teaching ceramics classes at the Adobe Art Center.

In my recent work I have focused on raku-fired vessels, paying special attention to form and surface. Using multi-colored copper base glazes on my pieces and by using specialized techniques inside the raku process, the finished surfaces take on an energetic and abstract nature that is exciting and complementary to the form.
